What is a PADI Scuba Diving Course? Why do I have to take one?
A Scuba Diving Course is a package of theory and pool sessions, conducted by certified Scuba Instructors. It is very much similar to a short driving course, where you will acquire scuba skills. You will need at least an Open Water Diver Certification in order to dive at all locations around the world.
Diving courses train and prepare you to use your equipment effectively, safely, and be able to respond appropriately to various scenarios. There is a focus on safety, teamwork, technical skill and also conceptual knowledge of relevant subjects.
How can I start? What Course should I take? What kind of Courses are they, and what is the cost?
Scuba Diving Courses are largely progressive in nature; that is, you have to complete progressively more advanced courses in sequence, and cannot take advanced courses from the outset.
If you wish to experience a quick one-day Scuba Diving experience in the confines of a swimming pool, they may choose to try the Discover Scuba Diving package.
If you wish to earn your own Open Water Diver Certification in order to be certified to dive as leisure divers, you will need to attempt the PADI Open Water Diver Course.
Here’s a rough, simplified framework of the most popular route of advancement in terms of dive competency, and the minimum time to complete them.
Most people opt to start off directly with the PADI Open Water Diver Course, which is the logical route if the aim is to graduate from the course with a full certification. However the activities in the Discover Scuba Diving Course credits towards the OWD Certification.
**Prices quoted includes all course materials, gear rental, transport, accommodation, training costs, relevant taxes, food and certifications. Prices apply for trips going to Dayang, Bintan and Tioman. For optional trips where air travel is necessary, air ticket is at students’ expense due to fluctuation of price.
At Amazing, the basic
Open Water Dive Course students graduate with high confidence levels to take Advanced Courses and beyond- with most starting from absolute scratch.
Participants start off in a discussion-centric, vibrant learning atmosphere in the cosy environment of the Classroom. Our PADI Open Water Dive Course encompasses an introduction of some Advanced Course segments such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Boat Diving, Fish I.D., Drift Diving and Wreck Diving, incorporated as part of the training. Come prepared- and we’re prepared to give you our very best.
We train our OWD divers to master the required skills. This sets us apart as there is no need to clock additional dive experiences before the advanced course, which is often a factor which many beginners overlook. In fact, we have quite a number of divers who are not PADI certified converting to PADI Open Water Divers every year; or converting to our Advanced Open Water Diver certification. While there are cheaper alternatives elsewhere, we advocate a quality certification at a prudent rate.
Our students often organise gatherings and turn up at Shop events such as BBQs to meet their coursemates, plan for new dives and have fun!
Split into 3 simple steps, the entry level
Open Water Diver Course takes you from zero to a personal license to dive worldwide. Briefly,
a) Attend 2 theory sessions
b) Attend a pool session
c) Pick a weekend to complete the certification.
The Open Water Diver Course allows you to explore to a depth of 18m.
There are no hidden costs, high quality personal instruction, a worldwide recognised certification. Everything you need is in the package, and everything you don’t is out.

It is prudent to attain at least an Advanced
Open Water Diver certification before going for longhaul trips to the most beautiful underwater sanctuaries on Earth. This is because most of the best sites lie between 15-30m. The only requirement for attempting the AOWD course is to already have a basic OWD certification; In the Advanced Course, we push depth limits to 30m, and students also learn practical skills in Underwater Navigation, Deep Diving, Drift Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy and even Wreck Diving.
Our Advanced Course is a self-study course, which means that there is no pool or classroom theory session. Students simply need to complete and understand the Knowledge Reviews at the end of the relevant chapters. The focus is on the training on-location, where the students learn about the skills and practice them in a leisure dive format. It’s like a leisure dive, incorporating good habits and techniques of Advanced diving.

Recue Divers are respected as they often can notice and control an issue before it becomes a problem, and they have the necessary skills to assist and rescue divers in trouble, in various scenarios- above or underwater. The Rescue Course requires formal training and certification in Emergency First Response or an equivalent CPR training prior to attempting the course. We include EFR training in the package as well.
The Rescue Course is oft described by our graduates as challenging, exciting and fulfilling. Some think that it’s the best choice they ever made and that they have a great sense of accomplishment and achievement. Both male and female divers alike have taken the Rescue Course as it focuses on techniques; not on brute strength. The most interesting part of the course would be the trip, as we never know when the next simulated ‘accident’ will occur and the Rescue Divers are always on alert to ‘save’ a diver in trouble, under the guidance of an instructor. It is as exciting a course as it is to watch!
From Rescue Diver Certification onwards, you can choose to become part of the crew as a PADI Dive Master, which is the first professional certification. Consider the 3-in-1 package that includes the Emergency First Response, Rescue and DiveMaster Course.
We’ll help you “clock” your dives for you too, with no added cost as part of the course. AmazingDive DMs graduate as technically competent dive leaders who inspire confidence and gain the trust of divers under their charge.
As crew, you’ll also enjoy special retail rates, sponsored longhaul trips, testing and rating of the latest scuba equipment, take great pride and responsibility in diving safety, standards, a passionate love for teaching, sharing and environmental conservation-a truly unforgettable chapter of your life.
